A Tesla robotaxi will likely be available in a few months, according to Elon Musk.
Friday’s tweet from the owner of X said, “Tesla Robotaxi unveil on 8/8.”
The announcement coincides with reports that Tesla is abandoning its low-cost EV aspirations. Musk stated that production of its next-generation EVs would start by the end of 2025, with the possibility of a $25,000 model, during an earnings call in January. (At little under $40,000, the Model 3 is now the most cheap model.)
Tesla, however, is up against fierce competition from Chinese manufacturers of electric vehicles (EVs) with prices as low as $10,000, according to Reuters. Reuters claims that rather than introducing a cheap car, Tesla is “all in” on the robotaxi. Subsequently, Musk claimed in a tweet that Reuters was “lying,” although he did not say which specific aspect of the story was untrue.
