How to Prevent Instagram and Facebook from Monitoring Your Online Activities

To halt Instagram’s monitoring of your online actions, first, you must access your Account Center within the Instagram application, where you can adjust your off-Meta technology preferences.

  • Open the Instagram application and tap on your profile icon located at the bottom-right corner.
  • Next, tap on the three-line settings icon positioned at the top-right corner.
  • Choose “Settings and privacy” from the menu.
  • Under Your account select Accounts Center.

After locating the Accounts Center, navigate to the off Meta technologies settings by selecting “Your information and permissions” followed by “Your activity off Meta technologies.”

Navigate to the ‘Manage future activity‘ option on the page labeled ‘Your activity off Meta technologies.’

Choose Disconnect future activity.

Review the details provided on the “What you should know” page, then proceed to choose “Disconnect future activity.”

Preventing Facebook from Tracking Your Online Activity If your Facebook account is associated with your Instagram account, disconnecting future activity will automatically extend to it, eliminating the need for further action to halt Facebook’s tracking.

However, if your Facebook account isn’t linked to your Instagram, you’ll need to disconnect it separately. Here’s how:

  1. Launch Facebook on your device.
  2. Navigate to your Facebook profile and tap on the three dots icon located in the top right corner to access the Menu.
  3. Choose “Settings & Privacy,” then proceed to select “Settings.”

4- Choose Meta Accounts Center from the menu on the left column

5- On the left-hand side of the screen, within the Account settings section, click on Your information and permissions.

6- Click on Your activity off Meta technologies located on the right side of the screen.

7- Here, you have the option to sever a particular activity, preventing a specific app or website from tracking your online behavior. Simply choose either “Disconnect specific activity” or “Recent Activity.”

8- To hinder Facebook from tracking your activity on external apps and websites, opt for “Manage future activity.”


9- In the upcoming window, choose “Disconnect future activity,” then proceed by selecting “Continue” to confirm.

10- Review the details provided on the “What you should know” page, and click on “Disconnect future activity” at the bottom of the screen.
