The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has unveiled a WhatsApp-based ticketing system, allowing passengers to buy tickets online directly through WhatsApp chats from anywhere. This innovative ticketing service on WhatsApp aims to simplify ticket accessibility for metro travelers, showcasing DMRC’s commitment to enhancing the metro experience for its passengers.

The collaboration between DMRC, Meta, and Pelocal Fintech Pvt. Ltd has resulted in a new service accessible via WhatsApp, catering to metro travelers in the Delhi NCR region. Covering 288 metro stations and 12 metro lines, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro and Airport line, this service supports communication in both Hindi and English languages.

Here’s how to book a metro ticket through WhatsApp:

  1. Add DMRC’s official WhatsApp number, 9650855800, to your phone’s contact list.
  2. Open WhatsApp and send a message saying “Hi” to the newly added contact number.
  3. Upon connection, select your preferred language.
  4. Choose the desired option from the menu, such as “Buy Ticket,” “Last Journey Tickets,” or “Retrieve Ticket.”
  5. Specify the source and destination stations for your journey.
  6. Select the number of tickets you wish to purchase.
  7. Confirm your selections and proceed to make a secure payment through the integrated gateway, using options such as credit card, debit card, or UPI.
  8. Upon successful payment, you will receive a QR code ticket directly in the WhatsApp chat.
  9. Use the QR code at AFC gates for both entry and exit.

Key features of the WhatsApp Metro ticket booking service include:

  • Booking up to 6 QR tickets at once.
  • Metro lines operating from 6 am to 9 pm, with the Airport Line (Orange Line) running from 4 am to 11 pm.
  • Inability to cancel tickets booked via WhatsApp Ticketing.
  • A small additional fee for credit/debit card payments, while UPI payments incur no extra charges.
  • Usage of the same QR ticket throughout the day.
  • Allowing 65 minutes to exit the metro station after entry.
