How to Utilize Gemini AI as the Default Virtual Assistant on Android Devices

Google has rebranded its Bard chatbot to Gemini and introduced a new application for Android users. With the Gemini app, users can designate Gemini AI as their default assistant on their Android devices.


Here’s a detailed guide on using the new Google Gemini app on Android devices:

Installation:

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your phone.
  2. Search for “Google Gemini” in the search bar and locate the app.
  3. Tap on the “Install” button next to the app icon.
  4. Allow time for the app to download and install on your device.

Getting Started:

  1. Launch the Gemini app.
  2. Tap on “Get started.”
  3. Read the information about Gemini’s capabilities and tap on “More.” Then, agree to the terms by tapping on “I agree.”
  4. Gemini can assist you with various tasks using voice, text, or photo input. Enter your query in the provided box and tap on the mail icon. You can also select a suggestion from the top of the app.
  5. Repeat Step 4 for additional queries.
  6. View your previous queries and responses in the Chats section.

Setting Gemini as Default Assistant:

  1. In the Gemini app, tap on your Profile picture at the top right.
  2. Then, select “Settings.”
  3. Tap on “Digital assistants from Google.”
  4. Choose Gemini to set it as your default digital assistant.
  5. To switch back to Google Assistant, repeat the same steps and select “Google Assistant” instead.
